BEYOND THE END
Hey there! Hum… This could sound weird, but what year is it?
Imagine this scenario: One day, creatures from another world gift you a belt with which you can travel through time and space. Where and when would you go?
In my case,
I would like to go to the year 2049 and explore the world. Why? Well, several
papers powered by scientist, educators, and activities across the world,
currently says that if we don’t rapidly reduce global CO2 emission and reach
net zero emissions by 2050, that year the earth will begin an irreversible
process of global warming. The phenomenon could produce a global crisis, with
flooded cities, forced migration, and the Amazon turning into a desert.
There’s a
lot of international projects that are trying to stop climate change and reach
a green society by 2050. This could sound kind of dramatic, but that year could
be the beginning of the apocalypse for humanity and all livings on the earth.
But I have
hope that we could walk a path where 2050 is not the end, but just a new
beginning. We can build a future that´s more conscious about the environment,
transitioning away from fossil fuels to clean infrastructure and industries
that create multiple jobs, overcome social inequalities, and create a wealthy
economy.
So yeah,
I’ll like to travel to 2049: the 2050’s eve. I’ll like to see how humans have
changed and see if we could be able to stop climate change or if we fail.
Honestly, thinking about staying there or returning to my current time is hard.
Because, if I travel in time, I’ll be an alien from another time so I should
adapt to all the new social rules that exist, and maybe these rules could be
very difficult for me. And if I returned, I could be in a paradox, because if I
didn’t like the future maybe I’ll try to create a new one (yeah, I know… a
total sci-fi overthinking)
But, If I
have to choose, maybe I would like to stay in the future if it’s a good ending
for humanity. And if not, I could stay if there’s a good reason for it (maybe
they have the best internet that the whole of humanity will have).
