THE END OF THIS JOURNEY

Howdy, howdy ! How are you? Woah, can you believe it? This is the eighth and final blog of this whole activity. Maybe this sounds like a cliché, but it’s amazing how fast time passed. Related to this final blog, I will talk about my current challenges in using the English language. First, I have to say that it was kind of strange to be again in an English class. In the beginning, I felt it was like being in the school again, but with the passing of the classes, this sensation vanished. Also, I really liked the creation of these weekly Blogs. It was a funny and creative way to practice writing every week. On the other hand, I know that I must practice more my speaking skills, but not like speaking with a script. I mean speak freely and improvise, but this kind of exercise could be very stressful when you’re doing it for the first time, and you must do it in front of other people. I mean, in my case I’m insecure about my abilities to maintain a conversation, and doing it in fr...

Architecture without identity

Imagen
Hi there! Well, on this occasion I will talk about some changes that I would like to do to my study program. (Program that in this case is the career of Architecture) For this I will organize my ideas into 2 main points: - The curriculum:  Exists an idea that is shared for teachers and students inside the career. Which is the major doesn’t have a common idea or philosophy about architecture studies. The only thing that connects the classes is the academic program designed for the faculty, but in the same class, you could have an extremely different perspective of the subject.  For example, exist a class that is called “Latin-American’s Architecture Critics” where you study and analyze the history of Latin America Architecture, but depending on which teachers you would have that you could learn more about “Prehispanic Architecture” or “Colonial Architecture”, but ¡is not only that! Also, you could have a teacher that says that the arrival of the Spanish Empire to America was th...

BEYOND THE END

Imagen
Hey there! Hum… This could sound weird, but what year is it? Imagine this scenario: One day, creatures from another world gift you a belt with which you can travel through time and space. Where and when would you go? In my case, I would like to go to the year 2049 and explore the world. Why? Well, several papers powered by scientist, educators, and activities across the world, currently says that if we don’t rapidly reduce global CO2 emission and reach net zero emissions by 2050, that year the earth will begin an irreversible process of global warming. The phenomenon could produce a global crisis, with flooded cities, forced migration, and the Amazon turning into a desert. There’s a lot of international projects that are trying to stop climate change and reach a green society by 2050. This could sound kind of dramatic, but that year could be the beginning of the apocalypse for humanity and all livings on the earth. But I have hope that we could walk a path where 2050 is not the end, bu...

What time is it? SPOOKTOBER 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Knock Knock! Trick or treat! 👻👻 Well, October 31 st is close, so It’s time to speak about something spooky. For this occasion, I’ll talk about my favorite horror movie. I’m referring to “The Thing” from Carpenter, which is an American science fiction horror film from the 80s. The movie is an adaptation of the novella “Who Goes There?” by author John W Campbell. The story is about a group of scientists isolated by the winter in a base in Antarctica. One day, they discover an alien spaceship buried in the ice, where it crashed several years ago. They end up recovering a frozen alien the spacecraft. Thawing revives the alien, a being that can assume the shape, memories, and personality of any living thing it devours. The creature begins to kill the people inside the base, it even eats the dog!! With that, the crew realizes they must isolate their base and therefore disable their airplanes and vehicles. Because if the creature escape, the thing could take over the world and that mea...

A meal I really like: CHARQUICAN

Imagen
Yo! Wassup.  🥘 I must say: I love food. Experiencing different kinds of flavors and cultures through meals is one of the most precious things humanity has. Therefore, it's very difficult for me to talk about only one specific meal; but if I must choose then it would be Charquican. It's a stew traditionally made with a base of potatoes, squash and dried beef (charki). The name derives from a combination of a Quechuan word: Charki kanka (beef stew) and the Mapudungun word: Can can (dried beef). Do you want to make your own Charquican? Ok! Let me tell you how: 1. First, you must clean, peel and chop the vegetables for the preparation (potatoes, squash, lima beans, carrots, corn, and onions). 2. (If you're going to put the meat in the charquican) You must wash and start chopping the beef in cubes (I recommend using chopped instead of ground beef because the taste of the beef is more prominent). 3. Put the Onions, the beef, salt, some spices, a couple of garlic cloves, ...

Music: one of my favorite interests.

Imagen
Howdy, howdy, howdy! What´s up? For the blog of this week, I have to talk about my interests or hobbies, so let's get into it. Like everyone else, I have several interests like do sports or cooking. But on this occasion, I would like to talk about one thing that is an important part of my daily routine. I'm referring to music. I’m a music geek, I like to listen to any kind of music.  Perfectly I could pass to hear any song of The Beatles to the new release of Bad Bunny (that was what Spotify says). Ironically, I’m not talented at playing but one of my favorite things of my life is to listen to music. Is the best way that I have to relax when I’m stressed or anxious. It helps me to focus when I have to draw plans or make any kind of design process.  Also, I love to discover the lore behind the concept of an album or the meaning of a song. For example, I’m a huge fan of Gorillaz. All the concepts behind the albums and the characters themselves are amazing. My favorite albu...

Why Did I Choose My Major? : From a ghostbuster to an architect

Imagen
Hello Ghostbusters, whaddya want? 🤣🤣 Well, this week I have to talk about my major so let's go to the point. I wasn´t really interested in a dream job as a child. My dreams were really surreal, I remember as a child I wanted to be a Ghostbuster. Yeah, you read well, I wanted to be a Ghostbuster and catch ghosts like the guys of the movies with the same name.  I began to be interested about to find a real career at 14 years old. At that age, I was invited to a workshop about architecture for teenagers at the University of Chile. At that moment I decided that I was gonna study Architecture. The combination of art, engineering, and philosophy were the perfect ingredients to get interested in. Honestly, I hadn’t other studies options. I met Architecture and I have stayed on the same path since then.  My experience up until now has had every emotion, from happiness to sadness, and going through stressful situations. While doing projects, you learn that nobody is gonna tell ...
